Pete Tang BSc (Hons) MCSPChartered PhysiotherapistBackground
Pete qualified from Keele University in 1999 with First class honours in Physiotherapy studies. His career began working for the North Bristol NHS Trust where he specialized in the treatment of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal injuries. In 2001 he took up post at the BUPA hospital Bristol where he was employed as a senior physiotherapist, later progressing to physio team leader and ultimately Physiotherapy Manager. In June 2004 Pete established himself as an independent private Physiotherapist working in a variety of settings including continued work for BUPA Hospitals (now Spire Bristol Hospital) and The Jonathan Webb Clinic. Pete established The Physio Clinic here at Riverside Leisure Club to provide expert physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation to the local residential and business community and to meet the ever increasing demand for fast access, high quality physiotherapy. Pete now works predominantly from The Physio Clinic, alongside other highly skilled physiotherapists and a sports massage therapist. He still retains close working relationships with prominent orthopaedic consultants including the Sport and Orthopaedic Clinic, The Jonathan Webb Clinic and The Spire Bristol Hospital. His case load is varied from the assessment and treatment of elite, international sportsmen and women to the recreational gym user with back pain or the long standing sufferer of arthritis following a hip or knee joint replacement. Areas of Clinical ExpertiseLow back pain (Including sciatica) – Thorough assessment and early intervention is the key to success when treating patients with back pain. Pete uses a combination of evidenced based, hands on treatments with specific exercises like Pilates and tailors these to the specific needs of each patient. Sports injuries – Early assessment and treatment helps to optimise patients’ recovery time. Couple this together with sports specific rehabilitation ensures that patients aren’t just pain free but are also able to return back to sport feeling truly fully rehabilitated. Post operative rehabilitation – With over 10 years of experience working with patients following orthopaedic surgery, from sedentary people looking for a better quality of life to the professional sportsman looking to return to top flight sport, Pete has successfully helped his patients achieve their goals. Video analysis – Lower limb pain affects many people. The bottom line cause is often due to poor biomechanics. The use of digital video analysis and Pete’s combined background in Physiotherapy and Human Movement biomechanics enables him to accurately assess and diagnose movement dysfunction, helping patients to become pain free and often enhance their performance. Shoulder and upper limb pain – Shoulder pain is one of the most common problems seen at The Physio Clinic. The shoulder is a complex area and requires a detailed knowledge, not only of the anatomy but also the sheer diversity of types of shoulder problems that can occur and the best intervention for each complaint whether that be physiotherapy or even referral on for a surgical opinion. No matter what, Pete and the rest of the physiotherapy team have the skills and knowledge to make sure each patient gets the most appropriate advice, management and treatment. Background
Suzanne qualified from Southampton school of Physiotherapy in 1996. After several years working in the NHS she took a post at the BUPA Hospital Bristol in 1999 as a senior physiotherapist and manual handling co-ordinator. Since 2005 she has worked in private practice as well as an occupational health physiotherapist for a major pharmaceutical company. With a strong background in orthopaedics and sports injuries under her belt she has undertaken additional post graduate training in both acupuncture and Pilates. These additional treatment skills complement and enhance her ability to deliver the best practice to her patients here at The Physio Clinic.Areas of Clinical ExpertiseAcupuncture – Suzanne has been using acupuncture in her clinical practice for over 10 years. Recent health guidelines from the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE), now recommends acupuncture as one of the key treatments for Low Back pain. The use of acupuncture as an adjunct to other physiotherapy techniques has benefits for a wide variety of painful conditions. Pilates – Pilates and Core Stability exercises form the foundation for many long term treatment programs. The aim of any course of treatment is not only to reduce patients’ pain and improve their function but also to provide the longer term solution in order to address the underlying causes of patients’ problems and to prevent recurrence. Suzanne uses Pilates tailored to specific patients needs to ensure long term success. Sports injuries – Suzanne has a wealth of experience in the assessment and treatment of sports injuries from her time spent working in National League Rugby and all the way through her career to date. Experience and expertise gained working alongside Bristol’s Orthopaedic consultants at The Glen means she, like all our Chartered Physiotherapists here, has worked with patients from initial assessment and diagnosis, right through to end stage rehab and discharge. Posture and ergonomics – As the manual handling co-ordinator for the former BUPA Hospital Bristol staff, Suzanne is well versed on all things related to Health and Safety, work station assessment and ergonomics. As with most spinal related pain problems, posture can often be an aggravating factor that needs to be addressed with appropriate advice and education. Background
Penny graduated from the University of the West of England in 2000. In addition to her physiotherapy qualification she has a Masters degree in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University and is a qualified fitness and swimming instructor. Like all physiotherapists Penny cut her teeth working in the NHS before pursuing a career in Elite sport. A former international swimmer herself, she continues to work with the British swimming teams, travelling around the world as part of the medical staff. She is also a regular feature writer for the 220 Triathlon magazine. Prior to joining us here at The Physio Clinic, Penny worked as First Team Physiotherapist at Bristol Rugby Club. Penny is able to draw on a vast amount of knowledge and experience due to her combined physiotherapy and sports science knowledge making her a valuable addition to the team.Areas of Clinical ExpertiseSports injuries – Penny is an expert in the field of assessment of acute sports injuries holding both Football Association accredited first aid and Rugby Football Union Pitch side Trauma accredited qualifications. During her time at Bristol Rugby Club she has had to assess and diagnose a whole range of injuries quickly and accurately ensuring players and patients alike get the best possible treatment from the outset. Shoulder complaints – From frozen shoulders and muscular strains to complex trauma, accurate assessment is the key to rehabilitation success. In addition to standard physiotherapy techniques Penny has developed digital video analysis of shoulder dysfunction in swimmers, both above and below the water. This has taken the assessment of shoulder complaints to the next level, vital for her involvement with the British swimming teams. Sports and Injury Rehabilitation – After simple soft tissue injury or orthopaedic surgery, it is physiotherapy rehabilitation that makes the biggest difference in the overall outcome. Dedication on behalf of the patient is equally as important as the advice and direction received from physiotherapy input. Using land and water based rehabilitation exercises along with SAQ and sports specific drills, Penny has the skill and knowledge and most importantly the experience to ensure all patients receive the very best chance of rehabilitation success in returning to sport and normal activities. Core Stability – Poor core stability is often a key factor in patients suffering spinal pain in particularly lower back pain. Retraining posture, core stability and improving muscle length and strength are imperative when treating patients who present with spinal problems. This is also true for many upper and lower limb problems when poor biomechanics are involved. |
