Treatments
At The Physio Clinic all our Physiotherapists are highly trained to use a variety of treatment techniques depending on the type of problem you have. All our treatment plans are tailored to patients’ specific needs and requirements. Following your assessment and before your treatment starts, your physiotherapist will discuss the treatment options and expected recovery time with you. Your treatment may include some or all of the following:
Manual therapy

Joint mobilisation; joint manipulation; soft tissue release and mobilisation; sports massage; deep friction massage; trigger point release; muscle energy techniques; stretching
They are not used in isolation but are combined with other treatments to ensure patients receive the optimum treatment in terms of immediate care and also long term recovery.
Electrotherapy

Ultrasound; interferential; TENS
Electrotherapy is often used with acute (recent) injuries. It is used to help optimize the bodies natural repair process. It should never be used in isolation as a “magic cure”, but in combination with other treatments.
Exercise

Pilates; Strengthening and conditioning; stretching and flexibility exercises; core stability exercises ; gym ball exercises; postural re-education; sports specific rehabilitation.
Exercise, like hands on treatment, form the back bone of physiotherapy treatment. A specifically tailored exercise program that is designed to meet the needs of the patient is often key to the success of treatment. Working closely with patients and making sure they are interested and motivated to work on their home or gym exercise routine is a vital role of the physiotherapist to ensure patients achieve the results they are after.

Advice

Posture; work station set up; ergonomics; manual handling; injury prevention; warm up and exercise advice.
Physiotherapists are often accused of talking excessively about posture, correct lifting and proper exercise technique. The bottom line is these things are often not the direct cause of a persons problem, but they are usually a factor that influences the speed of recovery and the ultimate outcome. Getting advice that is conveyed clearly and accurately so that the patient has a better understanding is vital for improving the chances of a quick recovery.

Acupuncture

Some of our Physiotherapists offer acupuncture as an adjunct to traditional physiotherapy treatment techniques. They are all registered members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP) ensuring the highest standards are met.
A recent publication from the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) has deemed that acupuncture should be offered as one of the best treatments for patients with low back pain. |
