Running Assessments and Biomechanics
Every runner moves differently – and even small changes in technique can have a big impact on performance, efficency and injury risk. That’s why we offer specialist Running Video Analysis and gait assessment at The Physio Clinic.
Using digital video capture and expert clincal assessment, we look at your whole running form, from foot strike and stride pattern to posture and movement patterns. We then explain what this means for your running and how to make adjustments that keep you running smoothly.
If we spot areas for improvement, we can provide run retraining sessions. These may include changes to cadence, stride pattern or arm swing – simple but powerful tweaks and cues that can reduce the stress on your joints and muscles while improving efficency.
We also take into account different running styles. Whether you naturally land on your heel, midfoot or forefoot, our role is to help you find the technique that works best for your body, goals and running history.

What type of runner are you?
Common Running Injuries & Treatments.
When is a runner not a runner? When they are injured.
Running injuries can be frustrating, especially when they stop you from training or racing. At The Physio Clinic, we see and treat hundreds or runners each year – from joggers and Parkrunners to competitive athletes. We understand the unique demands injuries place on your body and your desire to get back running.
Some of the most common conditions we treat include:
- Achilles Tendinopathy and calf pain
- Plantar faciitis and heel pain
- Iliotibial Band Syndrome (ITB)
- Shin splints / Medial Tibial Stress syndrome
- Runners Knee
- Stress Fractures
Our approach is not just about treating pain – it’s finding and addressing the underlying causes. We use point-of-care-ultrasound imaging where needed, to get an accurate diagnosis. Treatments may include shockwave therapy, manual therapy and massage, exercise rehabilitation and graded return to running plans.
The earlier you seek advice, the quicker and more effective your recovery can be.
Strength & Conditioning for Runners

Strong, resilient muscles are the foundation of injury-free running. Many running injuries aren’t caused by “over training” but by under-preparing the body to cope with the demands of running.
At The Physio Clinic, we design Strength & Conditioning programs specficially for runners. These programs focus on the key muscle groups that support efficient running: the calfs, glutes, hamstrings and core.
We also offer Pilates, helping improve posture, control and stability – vital for endurance and speed. For runners looking to aid recovery and reduce muscle tightness, Sports Massage can be a great addition to your training.
We can create a tailored program for home or gym, depending on your preferences and schedule.
Beginners & Couch to 5K Support

Starting out as a runner can be both exciting and daunting. Our team is here to help you make the transition from walking to running safely and confidently.
We regularly support runners following the popular couch to 5K program. Whether you’re struggling with calf pain, shin splints, or just want guidance on how to build your fitness and miles without injury, we can help.
We provide downloadable advice sheets and starter guides with simple tips on warming up, footwear, pacing and strength exercises. These resources are designed to keep you motivated and injury-free as you progress.
By combining physiotherapy expertise with a friendly, supportive approach, we help new runners build the confidence to stick with it long-term.

Recovery & Long-Term Running Health

Recovery is just as important as training. Without it, your body doesn’t adapt, and the risk of injury increases.
At The Physio Clinic, we guide runners on how to recover effectively – not just after injury, but as part of their regular training. Key strategies include:
- Active recovery techniques, including mobility drills and stretching
- Self management tools such as foam rolling, massage guns and pacing stratgies
- Sports massage, during training as well as pre and post events.
- Return-to-running protocols after surgery, pregnancy or long term injury
Our focus is on helping you build a sustainable approah to running, so you can enjoy the sport for life.
